On June 22, 1961, the City of Lauderdale Lakes was incorporated by the Florida State Legislature. The founders who came together to discuss the incorporation of the City served as the City’s first Councilmen. The first two appointed were the City Clerk and the Chief of Police. The initial population of the City was approximately 300 persons – a population that was principally comprised of European-American retirees who wanted to spend their retirement in the sunny South Florida climate, which Lauderdale Lakes enjoys. Since incorporation, the City has developed into a vibrant, urban community boasting economic growth and diversity.
